Finding a doctor who specializes in podiatry is an important decision. Most people think their symptoms will go away naturally. But that’s not always the case. If you’re experiencing any type of problem relating to the foot, it’s important to inform the appropriate doctor as soon as possible. Symptoms should be examined by the appropriately skilled doctor.

A Podiatrist is known as a “foot” physician with a special focus on food and ankle disorders and lower extremity.

If you’re experiencing any type of foot pain, blisters, athlete’s foot, calluses, warts, or any other foot related problem, then it will be in your best interest to see a podiatrist. If such symptoms such as athlete’s foot go untreated, the bacteria will cause an infection and it can spread to other people.

How to find and select the right podiatrist

There are a couple of different choices on how to select a good podiatrist for yourself.

Research online

It is a new age in technology and you can virtually find almost any business online. This may not have been the most reliable source 10 years ago, but with companies such as Google, it’s recommended that you start with a google search.

You can simply do a google search of the city, state, and zip and write down the list of names and numbers you come across. Once you have a list of about 3-5 numbers, call and see if you can schedule a consultation where you can ask questions. You should take the time to write down many questions you are unsure about. Such as what their procedures are, how many years have been in business, and the seriousness of the situation.

It may be a good idea to try to schedule the meeting in person as you get the opportunity to see how you feel about your potential podiatrist. Finding a type of doctor online is just as simple as that!

Friends and Family

Another way good way to find a podiatrist is to ask around friends, family, or coworkers. You might be surprised to see how many people have seen a podiatrist once before in their lives. You can ask them simple questions about what they did or did not like about their doctor. This may provide you a list of doctors to try and avoid.

Your main doctor may have a list of podiatrist they recommend. Most health clinics keep a list of different types of medical doctors they recommend.

The bottom line is…

It’s more important to see someone for your problems as soon as you can. That’s why most of the time we recommend using on of the world’s most powerful tool, Google. With all the different types of reliable review sites such as Google, Yelp, and Foursquare. You can easily find a doctor you might want to try or avoid.
